These studies were painted in Gouache, a much neglected medium, but excellent for rendering fur and feather in fine detail in my wildlife paintings. I was trained as an illustrator and I always try to define my subjects with the most intricate and accurate detail. I have a lifelong interest in wildlife of all varieties and habitats and having lived in the Yorkshire and Derbyshire Dales and now alongside the river Goyt I have always been surrounded by wonderful countryside for constant inspiration.

George Fathers - Life Studies

I am proud to present a selection of very unique Life Studies by my father, George Fathers (ARCA). He was my constant example and encourager throughout my early career. I had the privilege to work alongside him for 13 years and then he was the inspiration to launch my freelance career largely by enrolling me in the Famous Artists School of America led by Norman Rockwell. Due to his example and early training I have been able to earn my living all my life through my art.

A New Series of Local Scenes of Marple & Peak District

Having lived beside the River Goyt for many years, this series is my way of recording the places around it that have come to feel like home. From the locks and mills of the Peak Forest Canal at Marple to Lyme Park, Chatsworth, the Pavilion Gardens in Buxton and the old packhorse bridge at Three Shire Heads, each acrylic painting captures a landmark of the district. Taken together, they are the beginnings of a library of the area's most loved scenes, a record of its landscapes and architecture.
